Tip of the Month – CCleaner
When you’re browsing the web, your computer downloads lots of files: cookies, images, etc. These files stay on your computer even after you’ve shut it off, taking up your hard drive space and slowing your system down. Also, when you install and uninstall programs, some files get left behind which leave clutter and, again, slow your system down.
To clean all these files up head over to Piriform’s website and download CCleaner. To install CCleaner, double-click the file you’ve downloaded and follow the on-screen instructions. Once its installed right-click the Recycle Bin on your Desktop and click “Run CCleaner”. CCleaner will automatically open in the background, run, and then finally pop up and show you how much space its opened up. You’ll see a window like this:

Tip of the Month – Application Launchers
In the past few years, computer programmers have been coming up with better ways for users to launch applications. New operating systems, like Windows 7, have these new application launchers built in. They’re all pretty similar so here’s the breakdown depending on what Operating System (OS) you’re using:
Windows XP
Head over to Launchy’s website. Download and install Launchy, a FREE Windows XP application launcher. Once Launchy is installed, it will automatically look for all the programs you have on your computer. To use Launchy, just hold down the ALT key and press the SPACE bar. You should see a window like this:
show up. Then just type the name of the application you’re looking for and press ENTER.
Windows Vista and Windows 7
Just press the WINDOWS button on your keyboard (on the left side of your keyboard next to the ALT key) and type the program your looking for. Windows will automatically bring up a list of programs and files. Choose the one you want by pressing ENTER or clicking with your mouse.
MAC OSX
Mac’s application launcher is called Spotlight. Its a more recent feature added in to the latest versions of OS X. Spotlight indexes all your installed applications, as well as files and folders. To launch Spotlight, simply hold down the APPLE key and press the SPACE bar. You’ll see a small search bar open in the top right corner of your screen:
Type in the name of the program your looking for and press ENTER.

Tip of the Month – Foxit Reader
PDF files have become increasingly ubiquitous since Adobe came out with the file format over a decade ago. To view PDF files, you’ll need to have a PDF reader installed. Most people choose to install Adobe Acrobat Reader, the program from the creators of PDF. However, Acrobat Reader tends to be pretty slow, and runs an program in the background of your computer that hogs resources and slows your computer down.
Instead, download Foxit Reader. Foxit Reader has all the functionality of Acrobat Reader, but is much lighter on your computers resources. You’ll also notice it opens PDF documents more quickly than Acrobat.
